This is looking more and more fantastic as you go.
I have a thought about finding the broken toys: In the interest of making it more deep and immersive, perhaps he could find several parts of a particular toy that can only be fully repaired once he finds all the pieces? Just a thought.
I'm very impressed that you've come up with all these concepts on your own, from the art style to the controls to the characters. I really hope this game becomes a reality!
Nice, also I would have to say if this game does become a reality, and the RC car is an item you get, hide an RC car track somewhere in the game. That always seemed like a logical little easter egg to include in that kind of situation.
It's been fun seeing your work on this project, but I really like Leo's parents!
Rose is ADORABLE. Oh my gosh. Both of her outfits are sooo cute, though her work clothes are my favorite.
Jim is awesome. He looks like a really friendly guy! I like his work clothes a lot, too.
And I love the whole concept of adding them to the game. It's so rare to see parents incorporated in a boy-goes-on-adventure kinda setting. I love how they're who he learns new skills from, and I think a lot of the skills and the gameplay elements they add to the game are really cool. Learning to cook to make your own health items, and even the upgrade-clothing to get new moves are great, but the Play and Papercraft skills interest me a lot! They remind me of the little robot toy in Tails' Adventure, where using those skills lets you explore the world in a different way to seek out secrets! And secret areas are always a welcome addition to fun games. : )
So yeah! I looooove the character designs for Leo's parents, especially the adorable Rose. XD I love what their presence adds to the game from a design and story dynamic perspective, as well as what they bring to the mechanics of the game by being the source of cool new skills.
Your words really made me happy I am so glad that you like Leo's parents! I'm pretty happy with how they turned out too, and I hope that others see them the way we do haha! Thank you very very much for the kind words!
i really, really love the idea & look of this game....however, leo's parents seem to be perpetuating some crrrazy gender stereotypes here. i understand they're so deep rooted in sciety anyway it's hard to let them go, but having leo's housewife mom cook, farm, and give him clothes seems like it would send a weird message to females playing the game. just pointing that out.
but....i love the designs & i'd still play this game if it came out : )
I think society needs to change the way they view housewives. I greatly respect them and feel that they have a very important role and take care of many things. Housewives are clever, strong, and work hard. Leo's Mom's personality should be what people focus on, not her title. Because in the end she is Leo's Mom and that's the only title that matters.
i don't think there's anything wrong with being a stay at home parent (i think that is the dream for like 99% of everyone, ever ; ) )! the skills they have are a little stereotypical. but it is your creation, so whatever floats your boat. like i said, i still love the whole idea of this & would play it.
She is more than a housewife, she's a person with likes and dislikes. she's strong, kind and clever. She paints, she sings, she cooks, she makes clothes for herself and her family. She's a very very good Mom that just happens to like being a housewife because she gets to spend time with her family all day without having to think about work.
I'm very glad to hear that! I'm sorry if I sounded brusque with my assumption that she was just the usual "mom" figure. I was too quick to judge there. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the project evolves, and I hope to be more respectful with my future comments.
I read some of the comments below where some seem to not appreciate that Rose is a housewife.
I think, maybe if you didn't have her in a dress, she wouldn't seem so...default/cliche' to anyone. I don't have a problem with her being a housewife, I don't think it's "degrading" or whatnot. But since some people are thinking that, That's what I would do.
